At the Taco Bell Foundation, we believe that meaningful change happens when organizations unite over a shared purpose. Our long-standing partnership with City Year exemplifies this belief, demonstrating how collaboration can create lasting, positive impacts in our communities.
For more than 10 years, the Taco Bell Foundation has proudly supported City Year’s efforts to empower young leaders through it’s Community Grants program. During this time, we’ve granted over $5.8 million, including $1.45 million in 2024 alone, benefiting 21 of City Year’s 29 served cities. As one of City Year’s longest-standing sponsors, we share a deep commitment to giving back and fostering the next generation of problem solvers.
Recently, TBF’s Head of Programs & Partnerships, Marchela Lavey, joined host Jonathan Raymond on City Year’s “Why We Matter” podcast to iscuss TBF’s mission, values, and the real-world impact of their work. One of the key themes of Marchela and Jonathan’s conversation was the unique structure of the Taco Bell Foundation. Unlike traditional corporate foundations that focus solely on funding, TBF is both a giver and a doer. While we provide essential grants and scholarships, we go beyond writing checks by designing in-house programs tailored to the needs of our scholars and partners.
This holistic approach is what sets the Live Más Scholarship apart as one of the most premier scholarships in the US. In addition to financial support, TBF provides several hands-on opportunities including micro-internships, mentorship initiatives, workshops led by industry professionals, community immersion events and exclusive opportunities like Summer of Connection, an all-expenses-paid networking and career development event for Live Más Scholars.
What’s truly inspiring is how scholars don’t just benefit from the Foundation’s program – they pay it forward. Many take it upon themselves to organize meetups, community service projects, and info sessions at their schools, helping others just as they were once helped. This cycle of giving reflects the core belief of the Taco Bell Foundation: when young people are supported and empowered, they rise to become role models for others.
During the episode, Marchela also sheds light on the significance of the Live Más Scholarship name. It’s more than just funding; it’s a philosophy deeply rooted in the Taco Bell brand ethos. Taco Bell and the Taco Bell Foundation work hand in hand to make Live Más more than just a phrase – it’s a rallying cry that inspires everyone impacted by the Foundation to achieve more, uplift others, and take on the world.
Thank you again to the “Why We Matter” podcast for having Marchela on to amplify our mission to its listeners, and to City Year for being a great partner over the last 10 years. If you haven’t already, check out the full episode here.
