Live Más Scholars hail from every corner of life, each with their own unique story. But there’s one thing they all share: an abundance of talent. Check out the second installment of the Taco Bell Foundation’s “Where Are They Now?” series, showcasing how the Live Más Scholarship (LMS) has propelled one scholar’s musical and professional career.
From an early age, Miles Spearman’s father instilled in him a deep love for music, particularly funk and jazz, which filled their car on every ride. These melodies set the stage for Miles’ enthusiasm for playing the trumpet and his lifelong passion for the jazz genre. Miles recognizes the trumpet is more than just an instrument or hobby to him: “It’s like a language that you get to tell through emotion.”
Miles credits LMS as a major reason why he’s still playing trumpet today. The LMS community, thousands strong, continually impresses Miles with its talent in various fields, inspiring him to push himself beyond his own expectations to achieve greatness. As a first-time scholarship recipient in 2019, Miles has since graduated college, yet the support and encouragement he receives from his LMS community remains unwavering. He has taken advantage of numerous career advancement opportunities that LMS offers, including resume reviews, interview workshops and the Foundation’s annual Summer of Connection scholar conference.
Now living in New York City, Miles is inspired by the vibrant music scene and feels a connection to the jazz greats, even during a moment as simple as his subway commutes. But no matter where he is, Miles knows his LMS community is never far.
Miles’ story is inspiring, and it’s a reminder not to miss out on the chance to apply for the Live Más Scholarship. To learn more about the scholarship and how to apply visit livemasscholarship.com
