Where Are They Now? Live Más Scholar Mitch Holson Shares the Power of Photography

Posted December 30, 2024

From the day our scholars receive their first check to their first big career move and beyond, the Live Más Scholar community is here to support. For our final installment of the “Where Are They Now?” series in partnership with Upworthy, we are spotlighting 2016 Live Más Scholar, Mitch Holson.

Mitch’s has a passion for investigative photojournalism and seeks to create change through the lens of his camera. Inspired by his mother’s love for photography Mitch aspires to bring the same love and care to his work. In fact, his favorite camera is one that was left to him by his late mother.

After 4 years in New York City, as a Director of Photography at the esteemed Atlantic Records, Mitch recently moved back to Frederick, MD to dive more into the work he is passionate about. He recently started his own company – Big Whoop – a first-of-its-kind philanthropy photography venture, founded on the concept that art can, and should, drive change.

As a Live Más Scholar and now alumni, Mitch has utilized all the benefits of the Live Más Scholarship’s Beyond the Money resources. Over the years Mitch has received XX scholarships, gained access to many educational resources and opportunities and even had the chance mentor and work at Taco Bell Foundation events – most recently at the 2024 Summer of Connection conference in San Diego, CA.

Even after eight years, Mitch is still in touch with several of his mentors and fellow LMS Scholars, remaining very active in the community.  He states that “[The Foundation] is a huge part of who I became. I’m so grateful to have this community of people who empower me to keep going.”

The Live Más Scholarship is open to students ages 16-26 who have a passion to create change. You can learn more at LiveMasScholarship.com.
